Southeast Chicago Chamber and SSA #50 demonstrate how we transform available spaces into pop-up, urban experiences by combining the talents of Chicago’s most creative minds to feature art, music, and so much more as a means of attracting people and investment to the Calumet Heights – Avalon Park communities of Chicago.
Through Chicago’s public art initiative, the Chamber is collaborating with local artists Rahmaan Statik and Max Sansing, and celebrating our neighborhood by painting one-of-a-kind murals throughout the community.
This year’s series of xSite! events explore a concept of art that has been long overdue for the community. Whether art is through music, writing, dancing or play, the murals are enhancements contributing to public improvement and are a vehicle for the community to express its identity as family, stability and prosperity.
Our first xSite! experience takes place at 9031 S. Stony Island Avenue (old Soul Queen Restaurant). Once a destination for the world’s most famous Black celebrities, the peeling wall is an eye-sore in the community. Though the restaurant is closed and no longer serves the community, it definitely was a place and a time in our shared culture.
JUNE 30, 2017 from 6:00PM-11:00PM
You’re invited to sit in our art lounge and experience the live mural painting event, enjoy the live beats of world-famous DJs like Vince Adams, take your picture in front of the mural and tag it #scccXsite #southeastchamber #GoForGreat! Guess what? You’ll be entered into a drawing to win a prize from the Southeast Chicago Chamber of Commerce.
